Performing a Home Manicure Procedure

Learning to duplicate a professional manicure procedure is an easy way to get professional results without having to visit the salon and pay a large amount of money. A manicure procedure is designed to make the hands and fingernails smooth and shaped. It can involve soaking the hands to moisturize and clean them, shaping and cutting the nails to make them appear more attractive and applying polish for that good look. While this procedure seems complex, it is actually easy to perform at home on your own.

Creating Your Home Manicure Set

The first step is to create your own home manicure set. A few tools and a little knowledge of the procedure will allow you to achieve professional results at home. The first tool that you will need to locate in order to build your own home manicure set is a bowl. Fill this bowl with warm water for soaking your hands before the procedure begins. A bottle of nail polish remover is extremely useful for getting rid of previous polish applications. A cuticle pusher can be easily found at any drug store and is useful for keeping the nails well groomed. Clippers are also necessary tools to have. These can also be purchased at any drug or grocery store. A finger brush is a small still brush used to clean around the cuticles and under the nails. A small hand towel will help keep the entire operation clean. Nail files are very useful for giving the nails that smooth look. A nail buffer can be used to smooth out the surface and top of the nails. A good hand moisturizing lotion will complete the set. This is useful for making the hands feel soft and look great.

There are also some extra items you may wish to add to your home manicure set. These are not necessary to perform a home manicure procedure but may add to your overall experience and results. Some of these extra items may include bath salt to add to the bowl of warm water to remove any dead skin, a cuticle remover to help with shaping the cuticles, cuticle oil for controlling the cuticles and making them look nice and colorful nail polish. You may also wish to add different coats of nail polish to help protect your nails, such as a base and a top coat polish. There are even pedicure machines that you may purchase and use to perform manicures at home.

The Manicure Procedure

The procedure for giving someone or yourself a manicure is easy. First, start by removing any nail polish on the nails. Then wash the hands and nails in a bowl of warm water. Salt baths may be helpful as well. Next you will want to use both your nail clipper and nail file to work the nails into the desired shape. When filing a fingernail, always start from the outside edge of the nail and then move the file towards the center. Then the hands and nails should be soaked in warm water for about five minutes. This will soften the cuticles for manipulations. The cuticles can them be removed using a cuticle removing tool or cuticle oil. A nail buffer is very useful for the next step, which is to polish the nails until their surface is smooth. Now is the time to apply nail polish. A clear base polish will help protect the nails, while at least three layers of the colored polish should be added later. The top coat is usually applied last and works to protect the colored polish from everyday wear and tear. Finally, moisturize the hands and fingers with creams or oils to keep the skin soft and smooth. Now you are finished with the home manicure procedure.
